Sinossi
Gerald "Gerry" Garner, 11 anni, vive a Long Island, New York, ed è sovrappeso. I genitori di Gerry, Maury e la signora Garner, decidono di inviare Gerry a Camp Hope, un campo per ragazzi in sovrappeso. Il campo è di proprietà del gentile Harvey Bushkin e della sua altrettanto gentile moglie Alice Bushkin. Quando il file Bushkins per bancarotta deve essere venduto, viene acquistato da un pazzo di nome Tony Perkis. Tony intende costringere i campeggiatori a perdere più peso possibile, e intende anche documentare la maratona di perdita di peso e usarla per un infomercial per il suo programma snellente. Agli occhi dei campeggiatori, Tony ha reso Camp Hope un vero inferno. Mentre Gerry e il consigliere Pat Finley guidano gli sforzi per rovesciare Tony, i campeggiatori si preparano per l'Apache Staffetta contro l'arcirivale Camp MVP. L'Apache Relay è una specie di gara in cui Camp Hope non ha mai sconfitto Camp MVP prima.
