Sinossi
California, Deserto del Mojave, 1998. Uno strano bagliore appare nel cielo. Sam, un quarantenne venditore porta a porta, percorre le poche zone abitate del deserto californiano in cerca di clienti, eppure tutto sembra deserto. Inoltre, sua moglie non risponderà alle sue chiamate. È come se tutti lo evitassero. Quando la sua macchina si guasta, Sam diventa prigioniero di un ambiente vuoto e ostile. Solo e senza contatto umano per giorni e giorni, ascolta continuamente un talk-show sull'unica stazione radio locale. Il conduttore, un uomo di nome Eddy, riceve le chiamate di ascoltatori che condividono i loro pensieri su un assassino di bambini in generale nella zona. Allo stesso tempo, Sam inizia a essere molestato psicologicamente da strane minacce che riceve sul suo cercapersone. A poco a poco, le persone iniziano a riapparire e tentano di ucciderlo. Sam è diventato un bersaglio e ora deve difendersi. A poco a poco lo perde, coinvolto in una crisi d'identità paranoica. È davvero l'assassino che stanno cercando, o è guidato ...
