Sinopse
Neil (Ben Affleck) é um americano viajando pela Europa que conhece e se apaixona por Marina (Olga Kurylenko), uma ucraniana divorciada que está criando sua filha de 10 anos, Tatiana, em Paris.
Os amantes viajam para Mont St. Michel, a abadia na ilha ao largo da costa da Normandia, desfrutando do encanto de seu novo romance.
Neil faz um compromisso com Marina, convidando-a a se mudar para sua terra natal, Oklahoma, com Tatiana. Ele arranja um emprego como inspetor ambiental e Marina se estabelece em sua nova vida na América com paixão e vigor.
Depois de um período de espera, o relacionamento deles esfria. Marina encontra consolo na companhia de outro exilado, o padre católico Padre Quintana (Javier Bardem), que está passando por uma crise de fé.
Pressões do trabalho e dúvidas crescentes afastam Neil ainda mais de Marina, que retorna à França com Tatiana quando seu visto expira.
Neil se reconecta com Jane (Rachel McAdams), uma antiga chama. Eles se apaixonam até que Neil descobre que Marina está passando por tempos difíceis.
Tomado por um senso de responsabilidade - e sua própria crise de fé - ele reacende a chama com Marina após outra viagem à França. Ela retorna com ele para Oklahoma, retomando sua vida americana.
