Sinopse

Ambientado en una Tierra futura (2035 d.C.) donde los robots son asistentes y trabajadores comunes para sus dueños humanos, esta es la historia de la investigación del Detective de la Policía de Chicago, Del Spooner, quien sufre de "robotofobia", sobre el asesinato del Dr. Alfred Lanning, quien trabaja en U.S. Robotics.

En la investigación, un robot llamado Sonny parece estar implicado, aunque eso significaría que el robot había violado las Tres Leyes de la Robótica, lo cual aparentemente es imposible.

Parece imposible porque... si los robots pueden romper esas leyes, no hay nada que los detenga de tomar el control del mundo, ya que los humanos se han vuelto completamente dependientes de sus robots. ¿O tal vez... ya lo han hecho?

Ayudando a Spooner en su investigación está la psicóloga, la Dra. Susan Calvin, quien se especializa en la psique de los robots.
