Özet
1841'de İskoçya'nın batı kıyısındaki uzak bir adada geçen şiddetli bir fırtına, bir ticaret gemisinin batmasına neden olur. Film, hayatta kalan üç kişinin yoğun bir sabah sisinin içinde kürek çekmesiyle, kaybolmuş ve yönünü şaşırmış halde açılıyor. Sis dağılmaya başlar ve Ada önlerinde belirir. Dört yalnız sakin, yaşlı bir liman adamı, bir çiftçi, yeğeni ve genç bir deli kadın dışında terk edilmiş ada, misafirperver olmaktan başka bir şey değildir. Dinlendikten sonra, üç adam umutsuzca eve dönmek ister, ancak vaat edilen tekne asla görünmez. Denizcilerden biri adada ne olduğunu ve insanların neden bu kadar çabuk terk ettiğini sorgulamaya başlar. Soruşturması sayesinde her yıl aynı tarihte denizde bir trajedi olacağını ve adadan genç erkeklerin telef olacağını keşfeder.
