Synopsis

A Dangerous Son is a documentary film that follows three families struggling to find help for their children with severe mental illness. The film explores the challenges they face in navigating the mental health system and the impact it has on their lives.

One of the families featured in the film is the McCarthys, who have a 10-year-old son named Ethan with violent outbursts. They struggle to find a treatment program that can help him, and are faced with the difficult decision of whether to send him to a residential facility.

Another family, the Luthers, have a 15-year-old son named Adam who has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder. They try to balance his needs with those of their other children, while also dealing with the stigma surrounding mental illness.

The third family, the Grahams, have a 14-year-old son named Jake who has been diagnosed with ADHD and oppositional defiant disorder. They try various therapies and medications to help him, but struggle to find a solution that works.

A Dangerous Son sheds light on the challenges faced by families dealing with mental illness, and the need for better support and resources for children with severe mental health issues.
