Synopsis

Adventureland is set in the summer of 1987 in Pittsburgh. Young adult James Brennan, a recent college graduate with a degree in comparative literature, is about to embark on a six-week vacation in Europe before starting graduate school in journalism at Columbia University in New York City.

However, James' plans are derailed when his parents announce they can no longer financially support him. In order to make ends meet, James takes a job at Adventureland, a third-rate amusement park, as a games operator.

At Adventureland, James meets Emily Lewin, another games operator who catches his eye. With the help of the park's maintenance man, Mike Connell, James navigates his new job and his budding relationship with Emily.

As James and Emily's relationship develops, secrets and complications arise, including James' attraction to Lisa P., a popular coworker. Through his experiences at Adventureland, James gains a better understanding of what he truly wants and needs in his future.

User reviews

Donald Scott
7/10

The original score of Adventureland is both evocative and memorable, enhancing the mood of key scenes and creating a lasting impact on the audience.

Linda Allen
1/10

While some tracks in the soundtrack attempted to evoke a sense of youthful energy and romance, they ultimately fell short in creating a memorable and cohesive musical backdrop for the narrative. The lack of a cohesive theme or standout musical moments made the overall listening experience forgettable and unremarkable.

Joseph Harris
6/10

Karen White

The soundtrack of Adventureland fails to capture the essence of the 1980s setting in Pittsburgh. The music choices felt generic and uninspired, lacking the nostalgic vibes that could have enhanced the overall atmosphere of the film.

Timothy Green
1/10

The songs selected for key moments in the movie did not effectively convey the emotional depth of the characters' experiences. Instead of enhancing the storytelling, the soundtrack often felt disconnected from the on-screen events, diminishing the impact of pivotal scenes.

Michelle Nelson

The integration of iconic 80s hits in the soundtrack enhances the overall authenticity of the time period portrayed in the film.

Andrew Harris
