Members of the Webb family experience many trials of life. The eldest member John Webb copes with the death of his wife of over 50 years while planning for another crop after taking out a bank loan. John's two grown daughters deal with debt and shaky employment. John's two nephews, with their own families, also struggle with debt and unsteady work. When John and his nephews are offered an oil lease on John's land in which the nephews share mineral rights, hopes rise for all the Webb family members that money problems will be solved if they strike oil.
