American History X is a 1998 film directed by Tony Kaye. The movie follows the story of Derek Vinyard, a former neo-Nazi leader who is released from prison and tries to prevent his younger brother, Danny, from following in his footsteps.
After Derek's father is killed by a black drug dealer, Derek becomes involved in a white supremacist gang and commits a brutal hate crime against two black men. He is sentenced to three years in prison, where he undergoes a transformation and renounces his racist beliefs.
Upon his release, Derek discovers that Danny has become involved in the same white supremacist group that he used to lead. Derek tries to steer his brother away from the path of hate and violence, but struggles to undo the damage he has already caused.
