Synopsis

Ash Is Purest White is a Chinese drama film directed by Jia Zhangke. The story follows Qiao, a young woman in love with Bin, a local mobster. When Bin is attacked by a rival gang, Qiao uses a gun to protect him and ends up serving five years in prison for illegal possession of a firearm.

Upon her release, Qiao goes on a journey to find Bin and discovers that he has moved on with his life. The film explores themes of love, loyalty, and the changing landscape of China's underworld.

Ash Is Purest White received critical acclaim for its performances, direction, and cinematography. It premiered at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival and was selected as the Chinese entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 91st Academy Awards.
