Synopsis

After the birth of his baby daughter Cynthia, a Parisian horse butcher soon finds himself abandoned, responsible to raise and care for his newborn girl, completely on his own.

As his little girl grows into an adolescent, nothing much seems to change in the butcher's life, who day in, day out, experiences the same numbing and tedious repetition, up until Cynthia's first signs of puberty.

Under those circumstances and after a dreadful incident coupled with an ungovernable paroxysm of violence, the butcher will fall into a downward spiral that will burn to the ground whatever dignity still remained in him.

Overall, the haunting and evocative score of Carne elevates the film to a more profound and impactful level, making it a memorable and immersive cinematic experience.

Joshua Perez
6/10

The use of minimalist piano melodies in the soundtrack creates a sense of loneliness and isolation, mirroring the protagonist's struggles as a single father.

Amanda Walker

The tension-building strings in certain tracks effectively convey the mounting pressure and inner turmoil experienced by the butcher throughout the film.

Elizabeth Gonzalez
5/10

The emotional depth of the music in Carne is truly remarkable, evoking a wide range of feelings from sorrow to anger to despair.

Amanda Evans

Additionally, the use of certain musical cues in Carne felt jarring and out of place, disrupting the immersion in the film rather than enhancing the viewing experience. The soundtrack failed to establish a cohesive atmosphere and instead detracted from the overall impact of the narrative.

Dorothy Adams
5/10

The soundtrack's subtle incorporation of ambient sounds, such as the bustling city streets or the clanking of butcher tools, adds an extra layer of realism to the film's audio experience.

Karen Lewis

The soundtrack of Carne did not effectively capture the emotional depth and complexity of the main character's journey. The music felt repetitive and uninspired, failing to evoke the necessary feelings of despair and turmoil that the story demanded.
