Chattanooga Choo Choo tells the story of unscrupulous football team owner Bert (George Kennedy) who stands to inherit one million dollars tax-free if he fulfills the terms of his recently deceased father-in-law's will.
He must restore his father-in-law's favorite train, the Chattanooga Choo Choo, and complete a twenty-four-hour run from Chattanooga to New York City. Bert sees this as an opportunity to gain publicity for his team and escape from his wife.
Joining Bert on the train are his mistress (Barbara Eden), the team coach (Joe Namath), cheerleaders, players, press, estranged wife, daughter, potential son-in-law, and his father, who is also Bert's business rival. The journey is filled with hilarious antics and unexpected twists.
