Christmas at the Plaza tells the story of archivist/historian Jessica Cooper, who has been hired by Amanda Clark of the Plaza Hotel in New York City to research and create a display on the history of Christmas at the hotel.
Jessica finds solace in history, as she never had a sense of the future growing up, which made the idea of the future scary for her. Despite having plans to travel to Florida with her boyfriend Dennis Park, Jessica is unsure about their future together.
As Jessica struggles with the research, she is assisted by Nick Perrelli, a Christmas decorator hired by Amanda. Nick, unlike Jessica, focuses on the future and helps her find a "hook" for the display.
During her research, Jessica uncovers a secret kept by the hotel's chief bellman, Reginald Brookwater, which could jeopardize the project. This discovery leads Jessica to reflect on her future and consider if Dennis or Nick could be a part of it.
Through this project, Jessica learns the importance of looking towards the future and begins to question her relationship with Dennis and her feelings for Nick.
