Synopsis

Colette tells the story of Gabrielle Colette, who is married to successful Parisian writer Henry Gauthier-Villars, also known as "Willy" (Dominic West).

After marrying Willy, Colette is taken from her rural home in France to the vibrant city of Paris. Willy convinces Colette to ghostwrite for him, leading her to write a semi-autobiographical novel about a bold and witty country girl named Claudine.

This novel becomes a bestseller and cultural sensation, making Colette and Willy the talk of Paris. Their adventures inspire more Claudine novels, but Colette soon finds herself in a fight over creative ownership and gender roles.

Colette's struggle against societal constraints leads her to revolutionize literature, fashion, and sexual expression, making her a trailblazer in her time.
