Cyrano de Bergerac is a dashing officer of the guard and romantic poet who is secretly in love with his cousin Roxane. However, Roxane is unaware of his feelings. Cyrano believes that his large nose is his one curse in life, fearing that Roxane will reject him because of it. Despite his wit being influenced by his nose, he is convinced that Roxane will never love him.
To help his cadet Christian win Roxane's heart, Cyrano writes letters to her on Christian's behalf. Christian is also in love with Roxane but lacks the ability to express his feelings. Roxane falls for the poetic charm of the letters, believing them to be written by Christian.
