Synopsis

When forced to divorce his wife by family and social pressure because her mother is a prostitute, Nazar (Khodaparast) works double shifts to pay back the loan he took out for his impulsive wedding and to pay some ongoing restitution to his sweet jilted bride, Reyhaneh (Kosari).

When he falls behind in the payments he flees the police and ends up in the desert with an uncommunicative old man (Gharibian) who catches poisonous snakes for their venom.

These two are forced to coexist in the desert, because Nazar is unwilling to return to the city and wants to catch snakes to make enough money to settle his debts.

His verbose, chattering annoys the reticent old man until Nazar's life is endangered.

The soundtrack of Dancing in the Dust fails to capture the emotional depth of the characters' struggles and journey. The music feels disconnected from the intense themes of family pressure, societal expectations, and personal redemption portrayed in the film.

Patricia Scott
6/10

The use of traditional Middle Eastern instruments in the soundtrack adds an authentic and immersive quality to the film, transporting the audience to the harsh desert setting and the characters' inner conflicts.

5/10

The soundtrack of Dancing in the Dust effectively captures the emotional turmoil of the main character, Nazar, as he faces societal pressures and personal struggles. The music enhances the raw intensity of his journey in the desert.

Betty Clark

The choice of instruments and melodies in the soundtrack often feels out of place and distracting, instead of enhancing the storytelling. It lacks cohesion with the narrative and fails to create a cohesive atmosphere that immerses the audience in the desert setting and the characters' emotional turmoil.

David Davis
6/10

The subtle use of silence in some pivotal moments creates a powerful contrast with the music, emphasizing the characters' internal struggles and the vast emptiness of the desert landscape.

David Lewis
10/10

The music in Dancing in the Dust skillfully conveys the inner turmoil and conflicting emotions of the characters, adding layers of complexity to their journey. The use of traditional instruments and contemporary sounds creates a unique and captivating sonic landscape that enriches the storytelling, making the film a truly immersive experience.
