An eight-year-old message in a bottle, a harrowing cry for help written in blood by two captive young brothers, finds its way to Department Q after the hair-raising events of Department Q: The Absent One (2014).
In the meantime, as Detective Carl Mørck and Assad are sniffing for clues, a mysterious case of two missing children commands the attention of the local police.
In an attempt to catch the creative serial killer with the distinctive modus operandi, Mørck crosses paths with a neglected wife stuck in a dead-end marriage, who endures the needs, the unpredictable whims, and above all, the threats of her emotionally unavailable husband.
But, against the backdrop of belief and religious zeal, the desperate woman is determined to find the truth at all costs.
Are those two cases linked together, or is it a mere coincidence? Can Department Q unveil in time the wicked Conspiracy of Faith?
