Synopsis

"Ashes of Time" is a story about Ou-yang Feng, who lives in the middle of a desert in ancient China, acting as a middle man for various swordsmen. One of these swordsmen is Huang Yao-shi, who discovers magic wine that makes one forget the past.

At one point, Huang meets Mu-rong Yin and, under the influence of the wine, promises to marry Mu-rong's sister Mu-rong Yang. However, Huang breaks his promise, leading Mu-rong Yin to hire Ou-yang to kill him. But then Mu-rong Yang hires Ou-yang to protect Huang, creating an awkward situation as Mu-rong Yang and Mu-rong Yin are actually the same person.

Other plot lines unfold, including Ou-yang's mission to destroy a band of horse thieves. He recruits a swordsman who is going blind and wants to see his wife before losing his sight completely. Unfortunately, the swordsman is killed in action. Ou-yang then encounters another swordsman who dislikes wearing shoes, and sends him after the horse thieves with better results.

The story delves into the sacrifices one must make to pursue the martial path, showcasing the complexities and conflicts that arise in the world of ancient Chinese swordsmen.
