A diverse group of people decide to spend a few days off in a small hotel near the sea. The owner of the establishment is an enigmatic woman who lives in the company of her distant daughter, a young pianist to whom she provides her protection, and a waitress whose naivety and purity contrast with the rest of them. Guests include an older woman in search of her lost youth, a scientist with symptoms of senility, and an ordinary man. When the media reports that the end of the world is near, only the waitress and one of the customers will react to the indifference of the rest of the group.
