Enchanted April follows the story of Lottie Wilkins and Rose Arbuthnot, two married women living in 1920's London who are unhappy in their relationships with their spouses. They decide to escape their misery by renting an Italian castle for the spring.
In order to save money, they advertise for two other women to join them. Mrs. Fisher, an elderly widow who is struggling with loneliness and a regimented existence, eagerly accepts the invitation. Lady Caroline Dester, a beautiful flapper tired of unwanted male attention, also joins the group.
They arrive at San Salvatore, a seaside Italian castle surrounded by wisteria and sunshine, and find themselves in a romantic setting that prompts them to reflect on their lives in London. Lottie eventually invites her husband to join them, and Mr. Briggs, the owner of the castle, also arrives.
Unexpectedly, Rose's husband Frederick shows up at the castle to pursue Lady Caroline, whom he met in London. Through these interactions, Frederick realizes his true feelings for his wife, and the group experiences personal growth and transformation during their time in Italy.
