Flame & Citron is a film set during Nazi occupation, following red-headed Bent Faurschou-Hviid ("Flame") and Jørgen Haagen Schmith ("Citron"), who are assassins in the Danish resistance. They take orders from Winther, who is in direct contact with Allied leaders.
One of them shoots, while the other drives. Until 1944, they only kill Danes as per Winther's orders. However, Winther then instructs them to kill Germans. When a target informs Bent that Winther is using them to settle personal scores, doubt creeps in.
The situation is further complicated by Bent's relationship with the mysterious Kitty Selmer, who may be a double agent. Additionally, there is a traitor within their circle. Can Bent and Jørgen successfully eliminate a high-profile target, avoid capture, and survive the war?
Is their actions driven by heroism, naiveté, or sheer hatred?
