Synopsis

Flip That Romance

In small town Bedford, Washington, Jules Briggs works in her mother Alice's garden center, but her real career aspiration is to become an interior designer full time, she having flipped a couple of houses with her faithful contractor Kenny by her side. But she believes it is her next project with Kenny that may make her mark as an interior designer, which is partly why she spent more at the auction on this property - one half of a duplex - than she had budgeted, meaning that she has to find some savings somewhere in the actual renovation.

She is dismayed to learn that the owner and renovator of the other half of the duplex is Lance Waddell, not only her partner in what was her first flip, the project and the process of working together which were considered somewhat of a failure, but her former boyfriend. Shortly after that flip two years ago, Lance left town to start a "solo" career as a contractor in Portland, he just having returned to take over his father Ed's contracting business after what will be Ed's imminent retirement.

Due to Jules and Lance's history, the dual renovations and flips become a duel, both in working style - Jules who plans everything, while Lance makes many decisions on the fly - and in actual business as measured by how much each nets on the sale, which brings into the fold their respective real estate agents, Teri and Richard, who have their own on-going competitive relationship.

That duel hits a wrinkle when Elsie Baxter, the editor of Innovative Designs, a regional magazine, learns of it, and wants to feature the battle on their website and to hold an online competition with the magazine's readers to vote for their favorite of the two renovations, the winner to be featured in the subsequent month's magazine. However, what Jules and Lance were expecting to be a two to three week renovation process dwindles to eight days in needing to meet Elsie's deadline.

In spending time together, Jules and Lance find that romantic sparks still exist between them, Lance who may come to some further realizations about what he would like to do with his life. The question becomes whether they can overcome their differences to make this second time around work, with some misunderstandings between them causing further hurdles.
