Old Cats tells the story of Isadora (Belgica Castro) and Enrique (Alejandro Sievking), an elderly couple living a comfortable life in Santiago. They reside in a modest yet elegant apartment in the old downtown district, complete with a lovely terrace and mountain views. Despite being well into their 80's, they both maintain their independence and live happily surrounded by their books, eclectic art, and most importantly, their beloved two ample cats.
However, their peaceful existence is disrupted when the building's elevator breaks down, leaving Isadora trapped on the tenth floor. To make matters worse, Isadora's daughter Rosario (Claudia Celedon) and her partner Hugo (Catalina Saavedra) visit with a plan to make them all rich, but it involves the elderly couple signing over their lease.
The conflict between mother and daughter intensifies as Isadora, showing signs of senility, embarks on a dangerous journey down ten flights of stairs and into the bustling Santiago streets. After a rescue, the family begins the process of forgiveness and reconciliation, envisioning a new future together.
Directed by Sebastian Silva and Pedro Peirano, Old Cats is a poignant film that blends black humor and pathos, exploring the complexities of mother-daughter relationships and the empathy required to navigate through challenging situations.
