Goltzius and The Pelican Company is a historical drama film that follows the story of the Dutch printer and engraver Hendrik Goltzius. In the late 16th century, Goltzius and his printing company, The Pelican Company, travel to Margrave of Alsace's castle to present a theatrical performance based on the biblical story of "The Fall of Man".
However, the Margrave is more interested in Goltzius' erotic engravings than the play itself. In order to secure funding for his printing press, Goltzius agrees to create a series of erotic prints for the Margrave. As Goltzius and his company delve deeper into the world of erotic art, they must navigate the dangerous political and religious landscape of the time.
Goltzius and The Pelican Company explores themes of censorship, artistic freedom, and the power dynamics between artists and patrons. The film is a visually stunning and thought-provoking look at the intersection of art and commerce in the Renaissance era.
