Hardball is a 2001 sports comedy-drama film directed by Brian Robbins. The movie follows Conor O'Neill, a compulsive gambler who owes money to dangerous loan sharks. In order to repay his debt, Conor agrees to coach a Little League baseball team in Chicago's Cabrini-Green housing project.
As Conor struggles to connect with the kids and teach them the fundamentals of baseball, he begins to form a bond with the team and learns valuable life lessons along the way. Through the power of sports, Conor and the kids find hope, redemption, and a sense of belonging in a community plagued by poverty and violence.
