Hearts of Christmas
Under the longtime supervision of Alice Shelby, Jenny Miller is part of the caring nursing team in the Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of Community Memorial Hospital.
In the approach to Christmas, the hospital hires a new CFO, Matt Crawford, who has no experience in a hospital setting and thus treats the facility and its services solely as a business.
His mandate is to cut costs, something that his predecessor could or would not do.
For Jenny, it's dislike at first meeting with Matt as he slashes what had been for years the stable budget for the NICU Christmas party, this year's which Jenny is organizing.
That dislike rises to a new level when a data driven process by Matt to cut overall costs throughout the hospital hits a key area of NICU.
Despite Jenny's antagonism toward him, Matt is attracted to her and makes it his mission to help her in any way he can, especially with the Christmas party, showing her with such actions that he is not the bad guy but is someone solely doing his job.
As Jenny slowly starts to let her guard down and fall for him in return, the issue of his bottom line versus her humanistic view of the hospital may be a divide they cannot bridge.
