"I Am Somebody's Child: The Regina Louise Story" follows the journey of Regina Louise, an abandoned black child who is placed in a home where she struggles with anger issues.
Jeanne Kerr, a white counselor, forms a strong bond with Regina and decides to petition for her adoption.
However, the home's director, a black woman, opposes the adoption, believing that a black child cannot be raised by a white woman. The judge sides with the director, and Regina is sent to a private institution.
Despite Jeanne's efforts to stay in touch with Regina, their communication is limited. When Regina reaches adulthood, she is released from the institution without any support.
Fortunately, all of Jeanne's letters, which were previously withheld from Regina, are handed over to her. Regina decides to pursue an education and embarks on a search for the woman she has always considered her mother.
