Synopsis

If I Stay is a story about Mia Hall and her family, who are preparing for a normal day when they hear on the radio that school has been canceled. Mia's dad, Denny, a teacher, gets to stay home due to the snow day. Mia's mom, Kat, a travel agent, decides to call in sick and takes the family on a road trip to visit Mia's grandparents on a farm.

It is revealed that Mia is dating an older, popular rock-star named Adam Wilde. The story then flashes back to Mia's early life with a rocker dad and an inexperienced mom. Mia discovers her passion for playing the cello and her parents hire a teacher to help her improve.

Kat is pregnant with Mia's younger brother, Teddy, and Mia believes that Teddy is the reason her father left his band. The story explores Mia's relationships with her family and her boyfriend, as well as her love for music and the cello.
