Seven years later, in 1888, JoJo and Dio seem to be getting along better, but JoJo still fears Dio, who is plotting to take over the Joestar family as George suffers from a mysterious ailment. While researching the strange mask, JoJo discovers a deathbed letter from Dio's father describing the same symptoms as George's. JoJo suspects that Dio has poisoned both men. After fighting Dio off, JoJo heads to London to discover the origins of the poison. On dodgy Ogre Street, JoJo is attacked by a man named Robert E. O. Speedwagon, but after JoJo defeats him yet spares his life, Speedwagon decides to help JoJo. Meanwhile, Dio steals the stone mask to kill JoJo. Dio tests the mask by forcing it onto a homeless man and spilling another's blood onto it. Instead of killing the man, the mask transforms him into a powerful vampire who quickly overpowers Dio and starts draining his blood. Dio only survives when sunlight kills the vampire. He returns to the mansion to confront JoJo.
