Synopsis

Ju Dou is a Chinese film directed by Zhang Yimou. The story is set in the 1920s and follows the life of a young woman named Ju Dou who is forced into a loveless marriage with an older man named Jinshan, who runs a dye factory.

Despite her unhappy marriage, Ju Dou finds solace in her relationship with Jinshan's nephew, Tianqing. The two begin an affair that leads to a series of tragic events.

The film explores themes of love, betrayal, and the consequences of societal expectations. It is known for its stunning cinematography and powerful performances by the cast.

Ju Dou was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film and won several other awards at international film festivals.
