Synopsis

Little Women is set in nineteenth-century Massachusetts, where the March family is struggling in the absence of their father who is serving in the Civil War. The family consists of the loving matriarch, Marmee, and her four daughters: Jo, Meg, Amy, and Beth.

Jo March, the aspiring author, is trying to establish herself in male-dominated New York City, while Meg is now married and Amy is in Paris with their wealthy Aunt March. The news of Beth's illness brings the sisters back together under one roof.

Despite the expectations of society and the handsome neighbor, Theodore "Laurie" Laurence, Jo longs for independence above all else. The question remains: Must all stories end with a wedding?
