Synopsis

Liam is a morality tale of xenophobia, religious prejudice, mob violence, poverty, and their effect on two children in Liverpool during the Depression.

When a shipyard closes, Liam and Teresa's dad loses his job. Liam, who's about 8 and making his first Holy Communion, gets a regular dose of fire and brimstone at church. Teresa, about 13, has a job as a maid to the Jewish family that owns the closed shipyard.

The lady of that house is having an affair, and Teresa becomes an accomplice. Liam stutters terribly, especially when troubled. Dad comes under the sway of the Fascists, who blame cheap Irish labor and Jewish owners. A Molotov cocktail brings things to a head.

User reviews

Joseph King
6/10

On the other hand, while the soundtrack succeeds in setting the mood for the film, it lacks variety and memorable melodies that would make it stand out on its own. The music serves more as a background accompaniment rather than a standout feature, sometimes blending into the scenes without leaving a lasting impression. Overall, the soundtrack of Liam serves its purpose in enhancing the film's atmosphere, but it may not be particularly memorable or impactful outside of the movie.

Edward King
7/10

The soundtrack of Liam effectively captures the emotional depth and complexity of the story with its haunting melodies and evocative themes.

Richard Thomas
2/10

Furthermore, the use of repetitive and clichéd musical motifs throughout the film became distracting and monotonous, failing to enhance the storytelling or create a cohesive auditory experience for the audience. The soundtrack seemed to miss the opportunity to elevate the narrative and instead fell short in delivering a memorable and impactful musical accompaniment.

Robert Jones
4/10

The soundtrack of Liam failed to effectively capture the emotional depth and complexity of the themes portrayed in the film. The music felt generic and uninspired, lacking the power to evoke the necessary empathy and connection with the characters' struggles.

Sarah Perez
8/10

The use of traditional Irish music in the soundtrack adds an authentic and nostalgic touch to the film, enhancing the portrayal of the characters' cultural background and struggles during the Depression era in Liverpool.

Karen Hall
5/10

The soundtrack of Liam effectively captures the somber and tense atmosphere of the film's themes of xenophobia, religious prejudice, and poverty during the Depression era in Liverpool. The music creates a sense of unease and despair that complements the unfolding narrative, enhancing the emotional impact of the story.

Melissa Lee
8/10

The soundtrack's seamless integration of choir vocals and symphonic elements creates a powerful and moving listening experience that resonates with the themes of xenophobia, religious prejudice, and poverty portrayed in the film.
