Phil MacNaughton is a 43-year-old copywriter. As he is a hypochondriac, neither he nor his wife take it seriously when he feels a lump in his groin, but after a referral from his GP, the specialist diagnoses a tumor and amputates a testicle. However, he has spread, so intensive radiation therapy is unavoidable. Meanwhile, he tries to live as normal as possible, but little by little the pressure mounts both at home (wife, teenage daughter, and young son Todd) and at work, where he fears his boss is replacing him with younger talent.
