Synopsis

Motherless Brooklyn is a 2019 American neo-noir crime film written, produced, and directed by Edward Norton, based on the 1999 novel of the same name by Jonathan Lethem. The film stars Norton, Bruce Willis, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Bobby Cannavale, Cherry Jones, Alec Baldwin, and Willem Dafoe.

The story follows Lionel Essrog (Norton), a private detective with Tourette syndrome, as he tries to solve the murder of his mentor and only friend, Frank Minna (Willis). As Lionel delves deeper into the case, he uncovers a web of corruption and deceit that leads him to powerful figures in New York City.

Motherless Brooklyn received generally positive reviews from critics, who praised Norton's performance and direction, as well as the film's stylish visuals and atmospheric tone. The film was nominated for several awards, including an Academy Award for Best Production Design.
