One Day in August

Synopsis

Against the backdrop of a scorching mid-August in Athens, three diverse families prepare to leave the bustling capital, in search of a miracle that will change their lives. As summer is coming to an end, this is the last chance to escape, and start anew.

Somewhere in the city centre, a vacant three-story apartment building becomes the focal point, where three flats, three parallel stories, and three completely different approaches of life converge into three miracles. Now, Yannis, a seventeen-year-old burglar, becomes an inadvertent catalyst during this national holiday, unearthing the unsuspecting vacationists' dark side, their inner desires, and their unspoken hopes.

Will their dreams come true?

The use of traditional Greek instruments in the music adds an authentic and immersive layer to the storytelling, transporting me to the streets of Athens alongside the characters.

The musical score of One Day in August falls short in conveying the complexity of the three diverse families and their intertwining stories. The lack of depth and emotional resonance in the soundtrack makes it difficult for viewers to fully engage with the characters' journeys and the miracles they are seeking, resulting in a less impactful viewing experience overall.

David Moore

The soundtrack for One Day in August fails to capture the essence of the scorching mid-August setting in Athens. The music lacks the intensity and heat one would expect from such a pivotal moment in the story, leaving the audience feeling disconnected from the characters' struggles and desires.

The dynamic range of the music, from soft and melancholic to powerful and uplifting, mirrors the complexity of the characters' experiences and adds richness to the narrative.
