Kate is an ambitious photojournalist. Caught in a shootout in an Eastern European war zone, Kate sees a girl running through the chaos. Intrigued, she follows the Girl, taking pictures as she goes. The girl accidentally runs into a gunman who interrogates her, pressing her AK-47 to her head. Kate photographs the terrified girl and is horrified when the girl makes eye contact with her, pleading for her help. But Kate is too absorbed in the photograph of her. She takes photo after photo as the girl in front of her is shot. Kate's work is nominated for the new photographer of the year award. At the ceremony, when her photograph wins first prize, Kate finds herself haunted by memories of the Girl. Seeing the image projected on a screen, Kate runs off without collecting the prize from her, leaving the audience to stare at the brutal photograph of the dead Girl.
