Synopsis

Pain and Glory follows the story of romantic filmmaker Salvador Mallo, who is facing health issues as his early film SABOR is being re-released. His physical ailments lead to a deep depression that hinders his creativity. In a desperate state, he reconnects with Crespo, the leading man of SABOR, after 30 years of estrangement. Both men are struggling, with Crespo self-medicating between gigs.

Tapping into Crespo's experiences, Salvador is able to revisit memories of his past, including his mother, first crush, and lost lover. Seeking existential relief and closure, Salvador finds creative salvation in an autobiographical script that had been shelved.
