Synopsis

In 1998 Marco Pantani, the most flamboyant and popular cyclist of his era, won both the Tour de France and Giro d'Italia, a titanic feat of physical and mental endurance that no rider has repeated since.

He was a hero to millions, the saviour of cycling following the doping scandals which threatened to destroy the sport.

However, less than six years later, aged just 34, he died alone, in a cheap hotel room, from acute cocaine poisoning. He had been an addict for five years.

This is the story of the tragic battles fought by the most important Italian cyclist of his generation; man versus mountain, athlete versus addiction, Marco Pantani versus himself.

Laura Phillips
5/10

The use of different musical motifs and themes in the film's soundtrack helps to underscore the contrasts in Pantani's life - from the glory of his cycling victories to the dark descent into addiction. The music serves as a poignant reminder of the complexities of human nature.

James Carter
2/10

The choice of instrumentation and composition in the soundtrack often felt generic and uninspired. I was hoping for a more innovative and daring approach to match the bold and tragic narrative of Marco Pantani's life, but instead, I found the music to be predictable and safe. It missed the opportunity to elevate the emotional impact of the film.

4/10

The repetitive use of certain musical motifs throughout the film became tiresome and monotonous. It felt like the soundtrack was stuck in a loop, unable to evolve or offer new perspectives on the story being told. This lack of variety detracted from my overall enjoyment of the film.

10/10

The emotional depth of the music in the film is truly captivating. It amplifies the highs and lows of Pantani's life, creating a powerful and moving experience for the audience. The soundtrack succeeds in conveying the internal struggles and external pressures faced by Pantani, adding another layer of complexity to his already compelling narrative.
