Synopsis

Parasite Eve is a Japanese science fiction horror novel written by Hideaki Sena. The story follows a New York City police officer named Aya Brea who must stop the spread of a mysterious mitochondrial organism that causes people's cells to spontaneously combust.

As Aya investigates the origins of the organism, she discovers that it is the result of a biological experiment gone wrong. The organism, known as Eve, has the ability to manipulate the mitochondria in human cells and is intent on evolving to a higher form of life.

With the help of a scientist named Kunihiko Maeda, Aya must race against time to stop Eve before she can unleash her full power and destroy humanity. The novel explores themes of evolution, identity, and the consequences of scientific experimentation.

Parasite Eve was adapted into a popular video game for the PlayStation in 1998 and has since become a cult classic in the horror genre.
