Playing It Cool
The narrator, a handsome script writer, is insecure in relationships since his parents died, mother having left to Argentina for a lover, so he was raised by his granddad. His other friends are fellows scenarists, all with relational impairments: Lyle, Bryan, Samson, Mallory and best buddy Scott, whom he met trying to return the 'life-changing' novel Love in times of cholera.
When he meets an irresistibly fascinating woman at a charity event, he's too baffled to ask for her coordinates, Scott helps him to start a near-hopeless search, which after much effort and embarrassment finds her and starts a steamy affair, only to learn she's still committed to her 'reliable' British fiance 'Stuffy.
Grandpa encourages him to fight for love anyway, which means objecting at her wedding in San Francisco, without even knowing the actual location.
