Synopsis

Raging Bull is a film that dramatizes the life of Bronx-based Jake LaMotta during his professional middleweight boxing career from 1941 to the mid-1950s, as well as his immediate post-boxing life.

Managed for most of his boxing career by his brother Joey LaMotta, Jake is determined to get the title fight at almost any cost. He is unwilling to be knocked out to demonstrate that he is the best, even if it is for a longer-term benefit, due to his "my way or the highway" mentality.

Despite his boxing prowess, Jake has to overcome his disagreements with the mafia and his own brutish behavior to reach his personal goals. His personal life, particularly during his second marriage to Vickie LaMotta, is shown to be punctuated by jealousy and paranoia on Jake's side.

He becomes convinced that Vickie is unfaithful, leading to emotional and physical abuse in their relationship.
