Synopsis

Reaching for the Moon is a film that tells the story of the passionate love affair between American poet Elizabeth Bishop and Brazilian architect Lota de Macedo Soares. Set in the 1950s, the film follows Bishop as she travels to Rio de Janeiro to visit her college friend Mary, who is married to Lota. As Bishop and Lota's relationship deepens, they must navigate their own personal demons and the societal expectations of the time.
