Synopsis

Ridicule is a French film set in the 18th century, during the reign of King Louis XVI. The story follows a young nobleman named Gregoire Ponceludon de Malavoy who travels to the court of Versailles in order to secure funding for a drainage project in his home province.

At Versailles, Gregoire quickly learns that the key to gaining favor with the king and his courtiers is through ridicule. He must master the art of wit and clever insults in order to navigate the treacherous social hierarchy of the court.

As Gregoire becomes more embroiled in the world of Versailles, he finds himself torn between his desire to secure funding for his project and his growing disillusionment with the superficiality and cruelty of court life.

Ridicule is a biting satire that explores themes of power, corruption, and the destructive nature of social hierarchies.
