Simon och ekarna is a Swedish drama film directed by Lisa Ohlin, based on the novel of the same name by Marianne Fredriksson. The story follows Simon, a young boy who is sent to a prestigious boarding school during World War II. Despite facing discrimination and bullying due to his working-class background, Simon finds solace in his love for trees and nature.
As Simon grows older, he becomes friends with Isak, a Jewish boy who is also an outsider at the school. Their friendship is tested as the war intensifies and their families are affected by the conflict. Simon must navigate his own identity and beliefs as he grapples with the challenges of adolescence and the harsh realities of war.
Simon och ekarna explores themes of friendship, identity, and resilience in the face of adversity. The film captures the beauty of the Swedish landscape and the power of nature to provide comfort and inspiration in difficult times.
