Synopsis

The New World: The teenager Eva Molnar arrives in New York City from Budapest, Hungary, and visits her cousin Willie, A.K.A. Bela Molnar. Eva intends to travel to Cleveland to stay with her Aunt Lotte, but the old woman is in the hospital and Eva has to stay with the idle Wille, who is absolutely indifferent to her. They spend their empty days smoking Chesterfields, watching television and playing solitaire and Eva meets Willie's friend Eddie.

One Year Later: Willie and Eddie win a large amount in the poker game and they borrow a car and travel to Cleveland to visit Eva. They spend a few boring days in the house of Aunt Lotte.

Paradise: Willie and Eddie invite Eva to vacate to Florida with them. Shortly after arriving there, they lose their money in dog racing. Willie decides to bet their last money in the horse racing and they win money. Meanwhile Eva is wrongly taken for another woman and receives a huge amount of cash from a stranger.

Deborah Roberts
6/10

Overall, the soundtrack of Stranger Than Paradise plays a crucial role in setting the mood and tone of the film, enhancing the viewer's immersion into the mundane yet strangely captivating world of the characters.

Patricia Hill
5/10

The use of silence in certain moments of the film is just as impactful as the music, emphasizing the emptiness and lack of meaningful communication between the characters.

Ronald Carter
6/10

The soundtrack's shift to a more upbeat and lively tone during the Florida sequences mirrors the characters' temporary escape from their dreary reality, adding a sense of hope and excitement.

Paul Jackson
2/10

I found the soundtrack of Stranger Than Paradise to be underwhelming and uninspiring. The music did not effectively capture the essence of the characters' emotions and experiences throughout the film.

Linda Harris
6/10

The use of jazz music throughout the film adds a sense of coolness and detachment to the overall atmosphere, enhancing the feeling of disconnection felt by the characters.

Sarah Green
5/10

The soundtrack of Stranger Than Paradise perfectly captures the aimless and mundane existence of the characters, with its minimalist and repetitive melodies mirroring their monotonous lives.

Margaret King
6/10

The music during the scenes in New York City effectively conveys the bustling and chaotic energy of the city, creating a stark contrast to the slow-paced and uneventful lives of the characters.

Anthony Mitchell
6/10

The soundtrack's subtle incorporation of Hungarian folk music reflects Eva's roots and adds a layer of cultural depth to the story, providing a sense of nostalgia and longing.

Emily Mitchell
1/10

Additionally, I felt that the soundtrack lacked diversity and depth. The repetitive use of similar melodies and tones throughout the movie failed to create a dynamic and engaging auditory experience for the audience.
