High school friends Matt Johnson and Owen Williams are making a mockumentary film on the issue of bullying for a class project, one part of the film, to be presented in a cinema verité style, being to kill the school bullies, named The Dirties.
The genesis of the project is borne out of reality as Matt and Owen are indeed constantly being bullied by some fellow classmates. While they seemingly are each other's only friend, they want to see if one of the popular girls, Chrissy, who they've known since they were kids, is interested in Owen in they learning that she was when they were younger.
But as the pair progresses on the film, including showing the first cut to their teacher, Mr. Muldoon, they individually have different thoughts about it and about the nature of the topic as a whole, especially as it relates to them.
