Synopsis

The Journey of Natty Gann is a story about a 12-year-old girl named Natty Gann living during the Depression era. Her single father leaves her behind in Chicago to go to Washington State in search of work in the timber industry.

Natty decides to run away from the guardian she was left with in order to follow her father. Along the way, she befriends a wolf that has been abused in dog fights and hops on a freight train heading west.

Unfortunately, Natty is presumed dead after her wallet is found following a train crash. Meanwhile, her father becomes bitter and puts himself in danger at his new job.

As Natty embarks on a series of adventures and misadventures in various farmhouses, police stations, hobo camps, reform schools, and boxcars, the story unfolds with twists and turns.
