He falls in love with a woman from the tribe and must navigate the tensions between the Native Americans and the encroaching white settlers.
Dances with Wolves is praised for its portrayal of Native American culture and the complex relationships between different groups in the American West. The film won seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director for Costner.
