Synopsis

Going by the name of Kostas, Nikos Belogiannis, the former captain of ELAS--the Greek People's Liberation Army, the military arm of the left-wing National Liberation Front, EAM--returns to Greece. It's been only a few years after the end of the Axis occupation during World War II and the Greek Civil War, and the Prime Minister Nikolaos Plastiras administration now aims to build bridges and facilitate peace and prosperity by turning the page on a sad chapter of Greek history. However, this initiative does not sit well with the allies of Greece--the United Kingdom and the United States, that kept funding Greece through the Truman Doctrine and the Marshall Plan--and as a result, Belogiannis, and a handful of his comrades, find themselves incarcerated, tried, and executed by firing squad.
