Synopsis

The Ninth Configuration tells the story of unorthodox psychiatrist Colonel Kane, who arrives at a psychiatric institution for Vietnam War veterans in New England to determine whether the inmates are feigning insanity.

As Kane struggles with his own inner demons, he becomes intrigued by the metaphysical inquiries of psychotic former astronaut Captain Cutshaw, leading to a recurring nightmare.

Engaging in intense theological debates with Cutshaw about evil and the existence of God, Kane finds himself at a dead-end in trying to understand the soldiers' complex mental breakdowns.

With only a reckless plan left, Kane must provide proof of an afterlife to determine the root of the soldiers' issues. Can he succeed in his mission?
